USE & SAFETY
Great Build Wuality
The saw is very well made and folds up nicely. I keep it in my SUV so I can tackle downed trees across the road or driveway when I’m out and about. My son can use it to clear mountain bike trails too. I thought about getting a canvas sleeve for it, but it doesn’t require one. It is very contained and secure when folded. A sleeve would only be needed for aesthetics for me.
Close to perfect
I use this saw many times a week. It folds nicely to fit in the side pocket of my backpack. I store it there permanently so that I never miss the chance to take an interesting piece of fallen hardwood when I'm hiking. The aggressive blade does lend itself to sharpening despite the hardened teeth. I used a diamond paddle sharpener and followed the fleam. It would be easier to sharpen if the fleam went all the way down to the bottom of each gullet like on a typical saw, but on the plus side the way it's designed saves you from having to remove as much material. It also helps that the teeth are so sparse on the aggressive blade so that you have relatively few edges to work on. It cuts faster after sharpening like any saw would. I wish I could tension the blade even more. The blade doesn't have a *ping* to it when it's unfolded like I would expect from other frame saws. You can feel a little looseness in the cut. Other frame saws aren't portable so this may not be a fair comparison. It's ergonomic. It works best for me one handed, though for the first few weeks I was tempted to use two hands in a "power cut". It seems best to let the saw do the cutting and use my off hand to keep the wood stable. Definitely less fragile than the Silky Gomboy I (mis)used previously.
Top of line
This is a top quality tool from a top quality outfit. Now that I have the boreal 24 I'll probably add the 21" saw. The aggressive blade is outstanding.
